Experience & Requirements:
– Provide direct care to inmates in correctional institution and emergency care to staff
– Provide appropriate health care, diagnose and treat inmates
– Perform routine history and physical examinations
– Order and perform laboratory studies, X-rays, examinations, and electrocardiograms
– Initiate consultation and non-formulary requests with supervisory physician approval
– Educate inmates on medical conditions, drug use, diet, treatment effects
– Document patient contacts in medical record using SOAP charting
– Maintain confidentiality of medical records
– Order medications adhering to established formulary
– Participate in CQI program data collection and committee
– Perform other duties as requested by supervisor
Responsibilities:
– Graduate of an accredited program
– Hold a current license to practice in the state where facility is located
– Certified or eligible for certification in scope of practice
– Competent to perform responsibilities as defined by state’s practice act
– Maintain current CPR certificate
